It's What I Do

Description

This piece here is a industrial tool that I made. I am a Tool and Die Make by trade. With this part, precision is the name of the game. I had to do roughly 17 set ups and operations (some of them quite complicated) to take a chunk of steel and make it look like this. This part will go into a big furnace and get hardened, after that I have to surface grind it. All of the tolerances on every surface screw holes ect. had to be within .001 or 1thousands of an inc in relationship and orientation of each other. In other words, the placement of all the pockets, holes, grooves and the outer body of the part cannot exceed .001 of the measured measured distances from each other and the parts edge. For all you people who are unfamiliar with this type of measurement, I'll make it easy. Your average piece of paper is four thousands thick, my error tolerances are 1/4 of the thickness of a piece of paper. Just to put things in perspective.

If I were to see something like that lying on the road I would probably not think twice about it. It shows, how some things .... would totally drive me CRAZY if I had to do! 9 hours, on 'that'. Woah, I wish I had the patience of you, and obviously... the skill. Welp, good luck with your work:)
